DAD'S MONTH - JUNE 2003 JOURNAL

Hit Counter

Hi all and Welcome to June’s Edition of Tiny Rascals Journal.   While I do not have a name yet, I am a little sky blue female linnie that Jo is keeping, so I get to yap for this sega of the Journal.  So far this month we have passed Lou’s birthday and now he’s waiting for Dad’s Day.  I think he’s hoping to get that day off as he has been so busy making Jo shipping boxes and new cages for folks as well as a new unit for us.  We have this four unit job as Jo calls it and she just hates it.  The doors open on either end instead of in the front like the rest  of our homes.

Jo’s kinda depressed today, but she’s doing the Journal anyways.  She always worries when her babies leave, especially the ones that go by themselves.  Mostly worries that they eat and keep their bellies full.  Lots of them left with partners, so those she does not worry bout so much.  But the ones that leave by themselves, not only are they missing all their roomies, but big strange houses, new faces, whole new world to them.  Heck even the little one that she is keeping she is worrying about her all by herself now.  When she got BB last month, she used to weigh BB daily and got real concerned when BB lost 10 grams in her weigh.  BB came from a house with no other birds to a house full of birds, and even though Jo got all the foods she was used to eating, took her a good three/four/five days before she started eating good again.  Jo still does not consider her eating good and has ordered some mash foods for her from the Healthily Bird Company, hoping that might entice her to eat a better diet.  So yes, Jo worries but I don't think the day will ever come that she won't worry for a week or so after a group of babies leave.  BB may be able to afford to loose 10 grams but not these little guys!

Neela, a cobalt linnie, left yesterday with her new Dad and Mom along with a little travel home they got Lou to make for them, toys, happy hut and food.  Then Pepper, a slate linnie and Ecco, a sky blue linnie, left yesterday as well with their new parents.  They got the whole sha-bang when they were here.  A nice big home Lou made, all the toys and perches Jo made, happy hut, food and Jo’s got vitamins on order for them.  That’s a picture of them next door with their new parents and nice big home.  Then we had Jocelyn come get her nice cobalt and sky blue linnie from Fredericton.  She also got some toys, food and happy hut for her new feathered friends.  Two sky blues made a plane ride and arrived just fine and in good spirits at their new homes.  Matter of fact their new family has more on order with Jo.    Then today Louis, a sky blue linnie left for Moncton and his new home.   While they were all weighing in at 54 grams and up, the slate had them all beat.  Day before he left he was weighing in at a whopping 62 grams!  Her Mom was actually contemplating calling her Piglet, but decided on Pepper.  Did not want to give her a complex!

Jo has lots more baby linnies in the brooder, just waiting to take their place in the condo’s in a week or so.  Lots of cobalts this time round Jo says.  At least 6 she counts so far.  Oh and cross your fingers guys, Little Miss Tula hatched out her first baby last night.  Remember she was the one who did not feed her babies first time round.  So far, so good.  Jo’s holding her breath that all works out well as she has folks waiting every so patiently for her babies.  Jesse and Jodie should start hatching today as well.  This is their first time round for them and you just never know for sure what can or cannot happen!

How about the picture of the seagreens in the wagon next door here. Some kinda cute wouldn’t you say!  Three creamino seagreens (all females I might add) and the other two are males, which if you go to our Babies Page, Lou has put their mutations there.  I’d get Jo to tell you now, but she says she would probably get it wrong.  Lou is the expert there.  One of the males is already taken by the way.  He knows the sexes as they are ed.

Noah and Misty are out there building fast and furious again as well as Chucky and Chuckles got put to nest yesterday.  This is a first for them, so their clutch will all be surprises for Jo.  Shrek and Fiona, remember them.  They are two of Jo’s babies and are here to nest.  Their new parents felt a whole lot more comfortable if they came here to nest to make sure all goes well.

Let’s see what else is going on out there.  Mork and Mindy should start hatching their eggs this week and Jo’s hoping all goes well there, means she has folks waiting on those babies.

The six babies in the ring next door here, now they are some kinda spoiled.  First Jo took pictures of them all perched in the ring inside the cage, then unclipped the ring, carried them to her bedroom for playtime whilst their home was being cleaned and none of them moved a muscle in the move till of course Jo got out the millet and then they moved in a hurry as you can see them all munching away there.

Misty and Noah are at nest again and wasting no time I might add.  Then we also got more first time parents,  Chucky and Chuckles out there.  I see Jo also attached a couple pictures next door here of Punky.  He's the silver whiteface they kept back for breeding and is looking a bit scruffy these days going thru his molt.  He now has his new wife and will be moved downstairs soon.

HI Folks - It's me here, Jesse to let you's all in on the big big secret that Jodie and I are just the bestest first time parents.  We not only have hatched out all our five eggs, but have two with plum eyes (Jo's hoping for silvers) and we know another one so far is pied.  How do we know this you ask, cause he / she has a little black line right across the top of his nice yellowish beak.  Jo has pulled two so far for handfeeding cause not only are we the bestest parents to our babies so far, we are also feeding little linnie babe for Pascal and Azul.  Remember they laid one then another two weeks later laid another one.  Their egg was a week overdue to hatch and Jo kinda figured it was no good.  She just peeled the top a bit and what comes screaming out into the world in a great big rush, but a beautiful big baby linnie!  At this point Jo is kinda scared to put it in with them as she's scared they will not find it as they don't even realize it has hatched, thanks to Jo.  So she gives it to Jodie and Jesse to feed.  They accepted that baby like one of their own and are just feeding away.  Jo's hoping the night passes well and things are still all well in the morning.  You can never be sure, you know!

So that's the scoop on us, Tula and Grady down yonder there, they have three hatched and two unfertile. Jo had pulled one the other day and pulled the last two today.  They deserve metals and they were really good parents this time and their babies appear to be just the healthiest babies going.  Poor Tula, Jo is going to take a picture of her tomorrow but she's still not sure if she has the nerve to post it on the Journal here.  Says she knows everyone will laugh at her (or feel really sorry for her!).  This is the one and only pair that live here at Tiny Rascals that plucks like that.  At first she blamed it all on Tula herself doing it, but now she knows Grady is just as much, maybe even more to blame.  You see her head is plucked bare this time as well.   It was all just starting to grow in nice again the end of the week and low and behold she is bare again!  Has these two little tuffs of feathers on either side of her beak, makes her look like a grandpa with a moustache! She's not hurting in any way shape or form, (just her pride) so Jo's not so concerned in that sense.  Says if Grady keeps it up when they get back to the Resting Room tomorrow she will separate them for a bit.  But Jo also says it's kind of neat, this is the first adult she has almost naked in the crop area and is always pleased when she looks and see's Tulsa's crop nice and full.

The other Jo was here today and they did a major toe trimming on all the linnies.  Then they DNA sexed a slate seagreen and a cobalt seagreen.  Jo's thinking they are males and wants to know for sure in case anyone is looking for males.  Shrek's Dad bought him over today as well to get her (Jo thinks) DNA sexed.  Remember that Shrek, she has the partner called Donkey.  Should probably tell you now as well that Shrek and Fiona, the other two linnies Jo sold to a friend of her's have done absolutely nothing so far.  Did we tell you their parents bought them here to nest.  Jo figures they think they are here for a vacation, not to nest!  Give them time

Jessica and Lucas got  to go nest this week as well.  They are the pair that make just the ultimate beauties in pied whiteface.  Let's see what they throw us this time.

Mork and Mindy have hatched out three of their four eggs so far this morning.  So far they are being great parents as well.

Guess Jo better get her buns in gear and update the Babies Page.

Little Dylan''s baby is doing just great and poor Dylan is just on pins and needles waiting for his new little friend.  Jo is going to take pictures tomorrow and update next door here with pictures of them all as well as Dylan''s little one.  His school project recital is this week and all about us lovebirds.  Jo's thinking about doing a page on it for our site.  Thinks it's great an eight year old is doing all this research on his own and doing his school project on us.

Well we'll be back tomorrow with pictures and more update.  Benji and Alley's babies, plus a silver, plus Betsy got to go on the plane to Toronto today so gotta go check in and make sure they made it o.k.

Hi Everyone – The amazing world of computer huh!!  Jo is now sitting on the beach with her trusty lounge chair, grandson, of course two of his friends and her laptop writing this edition of our Journal.  Oh the wonderful life of living 300 feet from the beach is just too good this time of year.  Jo is keeping her grandson for a lot of the summar months now that school is over as his Mom and Dad work days.  She makes packs with him, some days he plays around by himself the whole day so Jo can get all her cleaning up of us now and in return the other days he gets to have his friends over and play at the beach all day.  Course  Jo has to run home for feedings and checkings, but they, the kids that is, don’t mind as they get a snack break!  Jo put a picture next door here of them making their super duper sand tunnel today.  By the time they were done, they were down waist deep!

It’s me here, Dylans baby, telling this edition of the Journal.  I am leaving on Friday and when Jo goes home for feedings she has to also call the airline today to make my reservation to go on that big plane.  In case you haven’t seen it yet, Jo did a page on me and Dylan last night.  It’s call Dylan Bisson’s Speech.  I think I’m gonna have a good life when I leave here.  I used to be kinda shy at first but now I do my step ups and am usually the first one out of the apartment soon as the door opens.  All my other roomies are just as friendly, there’s even one of them that just loves to sit on Jo’s shoulder and tweeter, tweeter and tweeter to her.  Then we got the apartment full of seagreen creaminos and cinnamons just below us.  Now they are beautiful!  Three female creaminos and two male cinnamons, one violet and one slate.  There ares pictures next door here of the slate and violet cinnamon seagreens.  Awesome huh!  They are babies of Cookie and Coby’s in case your wondering.  While we are all weaned as of this week, they still have a week to go.  Then next door here we have a whole wack of linnie babies.  8 cobalts and 2 sky blues.  It’s so funny.  Jo has sponged two of the linnies legs as they looked like they may be a little sprayed when they were just 10 days old and she didn’t want to take any chances.  Any day now she will be taking them off, but let me tell you that sponge does not stop that oldest cobalt!  He is all over the place, flying around the room.  He probably thinks he’s supposed to have that restriction as he’s never known different, just wait till they come off.  There will be no stopping him!!

In the brooder we have three more baby green linnies, plus four masked babies and five of Jesse and Jodie’s babies.  Three of their babies are either silvers or cinnamons, but two for sure are also pied.  Jo can hardly wait for them to feather in more.  Her dream has always been to have a beautiful yellow pied whiteface with a deep violet rump and she’s so hoping this could be the one!

So that’s the scoop on the Babies Room, now let me tell you all about the rackus in the Resting Room.  I think we told you about Lou making Jo new cages to replace the big four unit job she did not like.  That got moved out on the weekend, five big new apartments got moved in with their stands and Jo’s been rotating birds and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.  She does this at least every couple months, rotating birds and doing a major, major cleaning that is and it’s a big, big job!!  Really it’s easier this way as she dosen’t have to worry about birds as she cleans.  A lot of the portable homes, big as they are, she lugs them outside and compressor hoses them down, then brings them back in.  So all in all, everyone has a fresh new apartment to get used to, new toys and new scenery. Even Betty and Barney got moved.  Jo’s not sure if she should be worried about Betty or not.  For a lady that wanted nothing more in life than to make babies, Jo’s thinking she must be getting a little on in her years now.  She has been continually  building a nest and sitting on “nothing”for going on two months.  She’s eating, her droppings are fine, her attitude and disposition certainly have not changed, so Jo’s just keeping an eye on her.  But she, Betty that is,  also got a fast one pulled on her yesterday and got moved to a nice big new apartment  Let’s see if she continues building.

Punky and his new woman got moved downstairs to the big Resting Room last week as well.  Jo still has no name for his wife yet, but soon a name will come to her.  That’s the whiteface silver pair she held back for breeding next year.

Little Pearl and Seawilly they will be leaving next week.  They are going to live out in Calgary and that’s the last true pair Jo and Lou plan on selling for awhile.  They had to downsize a bit to make room for all the new whiteface pairs.  Oh ya, but we did get a new partner for the little fischer baby they held back.  A male, almost identical to Miss Betsy.  Still have no names for that pair either.  Guess Jo and Lou better get their thinking caps on.  Sunset and Buster, they were a couple, but not so compatible for each other, so they are also going to new homes, but not as a couple.  Sunset was sold to Jo as a female but Jo never had her DNA sexed and wonders if she even is a “she”!  Buster there he has been DNA and we know he’s a “he”and he’s going to make a nice new hubbie for Tucker.   If you’re a fan of our Journal, you all know who dear little Tucker is!  One spoiled little birdie and knows it!  So it’s going to be Tucker and Buster!  Sunset is going to live in Moncton with a couple who have 4 masked, all just for personal enjoyment.   They are all blue masked and they have been just about begging Jo for Sunset, who is a normal green masked ever since she got her.  So they are getting their wish.  Sunset will be going this weekend to live with them.  One more time, Lou is going to have to get to the Lineage Page and revamp it.

BB is still as spoiled as ever, but not so friendly with just anyone, cepting Jo.  Jo can do most anything with her.  Loves to lay on her back and have her tummy rubbed.  Better still she just LOVES going for rides in the jeep.  Just about everyday Jo will take her somewhere  with her and BB just chatters away and watches the scenery go by.

Out in the Breeding Hut now we have Misty and Noah sitting on eggs again.  Good thing as some of those babies are already reserved.  Then we have Chucky and Chuckles, we have Corky and Courtney, we have Jessica and Lucas (they are another pair who throw absolutely wonderful pied babies),

As for linnies out there we have Shrek and Fiona who are so far sitting on two eggs, we have Pascal and Azul, we have Nadine and Nigel, we have Cuddles (that’s Jesse’s female) mating with                ,and lastly we have Nana out there with her new man Stub.

Please don't laugh at Tula next door here!  She does have feelings you know!  She's so embarrassed that she's peeking thru a toy part.  Jo had separated them as she felt the reason this was happening, after watching, noticing that Grady was preening her too hard and watched him pulling out fluff.  But after a two day separation and Jo noticing that Tula was not eating, put them back together.  So far so good.  BUT she has been hearing this linnie sounding just like he was fighting with his mate, but everytime she'd get in the Resting Room to check it out, everything appeared to be just fine.  Yesterday she's out there cleaning the apartment in front of them and hears Grady just a jakking and squaking behind her.  She figures for sure he is fighting with Tula and whips around.  What does she see but Grady just a poking, pushing and squaking at a toy!!  That kinda solved that mystery.

O.K. gotta run, Jo has to get these kids home and feed babies.  Then tonight said she's gonna do up my Hatch Certificate  and all my gear together and ready for me.
