Hey Jo.... Well Shazza is finely making words clear, but it is only usually when he is on my shoulder he can say zeebe-zeebe, handsome, love you, tickle-tickle, nummy-nummy, he is funny he will fly over to me in the kitchen when I'm getting any of there meals/treats together and say nummy-nummy...I tell him yes.....he keeps on talking but not everything is clear yet......he will get it.....he is just to funny.... He loves his Jolly ball..Shazza plays peekaboo in it....... When I'm feeding the new baby lovebirds he has to fly over just to finish up the formula!!!!... It doesn't matter where I go in the house he usually comes ON DOWN looking for me....I can't wait until Azibo gets his flight back so he can too...... Azibo (baby senegal) is a card, he loves to be my upside down baby....lays on his back in my hand on my chest and I tickle his tummy.....he is talking too....he says love you, and a few other words can't remember right now.....Both of my new babies I'm so very happy with.......they are both amazing little guys..............

Joanne I want to thank you so much for the wonderful orbit that you sent me. I've been playing on it all day, and I got a little ticked at mommy when she told me it was time to go to bed and I had to leave my orbit. Of course, I put up a fight and mommy had to pry me off it. You made me one happy little Focker today, and if I was such a little guy I would fly on over to you and give you a big hug !

Hi ~I have looked at your site many times & always I am very impressed with everything I've seen. Your lovebirds are like jewels. Your cages are very interesting too. ~I've found some equally entertaining sites in Germany & the Netherlands regarding budgies & other parrots. Many people like to take their birds outside & I noticed that you have also. Have you seen the American site for 'Flight Suits'; with leashes? Thanks for the wonderful Site - Take Care. PS~Seeing the clusters of lovebirds makes one want to have a large group too!

Am taking a chance that you may know of any places near Gowen-Greenville area, or even anywhere close, that boards birds. Have a cockatiel that needs a home for 6 weeks. Is not a handled, nor out of the cage type bird. Friendly, loves attention, and sings happily all day. It is our "Precious". He is about 8 yrs. old we think! Thank you for any info.

Hey..just ran across ur website by accident...what a lovely pic...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I would love to raise a pair of ur wonderful love birds but my menagerie is getting a little expansive..ten home bred cats and one silly black lab who thinks he's the daddy of all of them...as I am confined to a wheel chair they give me far more comfort and entertainment than I give them...they are totally and unabashedly spoiled rotten...take care folks. I am fascinated by the linnies{i already have my beautiful lovebirds] and am determined to find a couple pair to include with my family of birds.

Hi Jo- I have really enjoyed your website and it has been helping my husband and I determine what babies we are getting here in Phoenix. We are hobby breeders, we have a total of 10 birds in our outdoor aviary. We have green pallid female with a whiteface turquoise violet split to pallid. The babies are darling! This is there first clutch and they laid 3 eggs and two hatched. We don't believe the 3rd was fertile. Anyway I think that we have a female blue pallid and a whiteface blue male? I don't notice a violet rump on either and the pallid is whitefaced. I think that I would like to bread the pallid with a blue ground american cinnamon or one of the combination birds that you are getting. Unfortunately when we got started with our aviary we had a re-pairing of birds and the turquoise male I mentioned came from a female green OF Pallid and a Danish Violet with a double violet factor. I know that the OF is not desirable and that is part of the reason that I would like to breed American Cinnamon into their offspring and also possibly start a new pair of American Cinnamon to another American Cinnamon Split. Does this make sense. Also, I am assuming that you do not ship your birds. Do you have any references for American Cinnamons in the Southwest Region. I just haven't seen anything as nice as your birds at the local birdmarts. I do have some beautiful violets that we got from a local breeder named Larry White. I sure would love to hear back from you as to whether you think I am heading down a bad road with the OF and also about the idea of breeding American Cinnamon to American Cinnamon.

I was hoping I could ask you all a few questions. A few days ago, I just bought a 6 month old indian ringneck that is nippy at my hand alot. Is this normal and will he stop as he becomes tamer? Second, at what age can I determine the sex of the bird and at what age will he or she began talking? Lastly, what temperature should I keep my house at for the bird? Is there any other helpful tips you can suggest. Thanks for your time, Michelle

The photos are exquisite - as are your birds! We are getting a couple of linnies (just the green), in a few weeks and I've been trying to collect as much information and advice as possible - having never had birds previously. I'm fascinated by the genetics - especially the work you have put into your lovebird population. It also touches my heart that you really love your birds. They are obviously so healthy and happy. With best wishes for the future, Nicola de Sousa P.S. Do you have a listing of recipes your birds particularly enjoy? Many thanks!

I am so very Impressed with your WEB SITE, My Wife and I are looking to try to Raise Cockatiels, but, I find My feelings for the Parakeet Family are much stronger than my feelings for the Tiels. Not that I don't like my Tiels. I am Very interested in your Lineolated Parakeets and hopefully to purchase one ro two in the Near future, Hopefully I am not asking to much by asking for the Prices of these Birds. PLEASE, keep up the most excellent work with your Aviary and your Flocks. It takes alot to impress me, and JO you impress me very much, and I hope I get the chance to meet you and your Husband. Again 3 CHEERS for the excellent work you do....

I just found your site and I love it. I have been reading the journal (from the beginning!!) and am fascinated. I adore lovebirds - and happen to be developing a fondness for linnies. I have a tiny bronze-winged mannikin finch - she's adorable because she's so much smaller than all the finches I've ever seen and hand-tame, which I've been told is weird (I had no idea that finches do not generally hand tame and just kept working with her, now she'll perch on my head, or shoulds or hands, if I'm reading, etc. for hours). I recently purchased a lovebird from Todd Marcus Birds Exotic. He is a hybrid and looks identical to your Chum Bum. He's adorable and has soooo much personality that I just love him to pieces. I have no plans to breed so his hybridization is not a big deal to me - the folks at Todd Marcus were up front and totally honest about his parentage so I knew that Jodie was to be my shoulder parasite. Thank you for many hours of entertainment and I look forward to more. I only wish I lived closer (I'm in New Jersey) so that I could adopt some of your babies - I love your methods of raising and rearing the babies!!!!!!!!

I am interested in what type of breeding boxes are required for lovebirds. and how many eggs do they commonly lay and sit for how long? I am handicapped and my husband built me a small oudoor aviary in my courtyard and I have a pair af peach faced lovebirds that have bonded.

My friend Lynne from Canada who bought some Lineolate birds from you introduced Me , since She knows I have 20 Lovebirds and 1 Princess Parrot which was cought when paying a visit to our Lovebird Aviary!!! Over the years I was surprised that my green and blue peach faced Lovebirds produced a beaut bright yellow Lutino and later a nice Grey Slate untill then I had No idea that this could happen ! Please continue with your most interesting Website !

hello, I am a fairly new dad to 3 babies, I have hand fed the last clutch of 2, is there something wrong because each time we get eggs there are 4 but not all hatch. I am very interested in learning more, but it doesnt seem like there are very many places that want to take babies. Most of them already have breeders. I am not interested in being a full time breeder. The last clutch were just by accident, the male is only 7 months old at this time and he has fathered 2 clutches. we have taken out the nest box but it doesnt seem to stop them. If I were to seperate them now could she still lay fertile eggs.

Just wanted to post a comment on our experience with your aviary. We found Jo on the net while we were doing a search on lovebirds. We found her site so informative and she was so willing to help us out with our questions and concerns even though we did not buy our FIRST lovebird from her. After visiting the site many times we started to take an interest in the linnies and ended up with our little cobalt 4 months later. Now here we are with our little DJ only arriving 3 days ago and I am awaiting 2 possibly 3 more lovebirds at the end of the month...go figure.I would highly reccommend Jo's birds once you walk into her house you can tell how much the birds are loved...Thanks Jo for everything!!

I have had two peach faced love birds for three years now. They were very friendly and loved to sit on your shoulder, etc. but after they had a batch of babies they were no longer a friendly pet. Everytime "Joy" lays her eggs she either breaks them or throws them in the water bowl. She will never lay on them. She has a proper nesting box, we have used it/not used it-it doesn't matter. What am I doing wrong? They DO not like different kinds of food-fruit/vegys etc.

I have a lot of questions and douds about the care of the eggs...here in Chile South America, the weather is too dry and i read that the eggs don´t broke. What can i do?...my birds hate the water i don´t know why, this is a problem because they never wet their feathers. Please if you can send me aany answer to my question. Thanks....(and sorry for my english grammar)

Wanted to let you know that your site is THEE BEST avian site that I have ever seen. Your love of those beauitiful birds really shines through. My favorite birds are lovebirds and I'm also taking a fancy to the lineolated beauties. When I am ready to purchase I know without a doubt that you are who I will be buying my breeders from. The one concern that I have is that I live in the US just south of Buffalo and was wondering how I would go about purchasing from you. I am interested in your edged dilute silvers they are unlike any color that I have ever seen. I would like all my babies to look like them. I am also interested in the lineolated light blue and the lutiono, but I need to know much more about the genetics. I would like to have all blue babies but also want to keep the gene pool strong. Was told by one breeder that I need to breed a blue with a split to blue and not to breed two blues together to keep the color more true. Any help on understanding this would be most helpful. Also looking to get a price range for a pair of edged dilute silvers and a blue and blue or split to blue lineolated pair. Thanks so much. Again,I'm very impressed with your most beauitful birds and your very wonderful website. Thanks--Justina

Hi, My name is Sheryl and my husband Chase and I are new parents of a lovebird. He was given to us so we don't know his age. His body is blue and blue/green with a white chest and neck. He has a black face-or mask I think its called. He doesn't like us to hold him. When we first got him and started holding him, he started pulling out feathers. These have grown back and he 'tolerates' our attentions somewhat, but still tries to bite us - owch! I have heard conficting stories about lovebirds. The need/don't need a mate; they can/can't be tamed. Do you have any advice for us? We took him because we were first told that he could be tamed and handheld and didn't need a mate. We love him already and don't want to give him up, but would love to hold him without being bitten. I'd love to get him a mate if he won't then ignore us completely; babies would be such fun.

Hi guys. Really liked the site. Was searching for info on lovebirds as I saw some in local Pet shop & wondered whether they'd make good pets for my mum & dad (real love birds) in their 80s. Also wondered where to buy. How wouild I know if they were young birds? Are there any breeders in Scotland?

We are new parents of a green linnie, and although we did not have the pleasure of getting our little guy from Jo, Jo has been ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL in answering all my questions and concerns regarding our little Lionel. She always makes time and replies to emails and has called me to talk on the phone. My compliments to Jo and Lou for their awesome website, photos and information. I find my self coming back to their site often to read the updates and look for new pictures. Thanks again Joanne for ALL the help and advice you have given me. You truly are a breeder who cares and loves her babies!! Keep up the great work !

Dear Jo, You must read about 50 e-mails per week from me. I just can't help myself. Of all the sites I have visited, this is the one site I visit daily to see if there is anything new. My husband even knows the tell-tale signature teal background when he sees it on my screen. He just laughs and rolls his eyes. I can't wait to have your babies bless my home with their charms. You can certainly tell they are well loved and spoiled rotten. You are the only breeder of Lovebirds and Linnies that I will recommend. I know that there's love and quality in your babies. I'm looking forward to receiving my very first Silver Lovebird on the 13th! What fun! Sincerely, Wendy Thibodeau

I bought them from someone who has had them or nearly a year, does'nt know what sex they are or how old they are. They seemed to be only fed seed and water. Did'nt have any toys in their cage. I would be in heaven, if I had all those beautiful birds. Judy

I find your site very informative as I am very interested in getting a pair of lovebirds.Since I have read your experienced info I am positive that they would make an excellent addition to my family and would be loved...I especially like the peach faced variety..What is your advice on whether it is better to buy from a breeder or a petstore..The reason I ask you this is that we are from Saskatoon,Sask and there are no breeders here and are the cost of purchasing the birds less from a breeder??? I am also a little confused about the rainbows are they peachfaced as well? As I also like them as well they are very pretty....

Hi, I'm a 14 year old girl who just got a new lovebird! I love him very much and I wounld love to know a bit more about what to do to keep him healthy and what type of lovebird he is! I really enjoyed looking around your site; it's full of wounderfull photos and great information!! I was hoping that you could perhalps help me know a few things! I'd like to know tricks that can help me figure out if my little baby is a boy or a girl! I'm really hoping to find out a lot more about lovebirds! I've sent you photo of another bird that looks just like him! My familly had started breeding lovebirds a year ago when we first got a pair of lovebirds that got babies! This little one is one of our peachfaced baby except that he dosen't look like one at all (he's blue-green with a blue tail and a grey head.. not one bit of peach on him)! We now have been handfeeding all of our babies and this one is the only one that was ever "not" peachfaced... I'm hoping that you can clear things up for me a little He is very cute for he is capable of learning tricks (he knows how to sneeze, whissel about 4 different toons that we taught him and he knows that when we clap and put our hands in the air, he must comme and land in our hands! Can all lovebirds learn those types of things? And if so, how canI teach him even more things? Thanks for your help! Please write back at wolfynix@hotmail.com Wolfy

Great website. I really like all the photos and the Journal. I just bought my first baby lovebird two weeks ago. He/she is 9 weeks old now. I was told it was a white masked sea green. although I'm not so sure that's what it is. It might be a dutch blue as it has a light blue belly. I love him either way. What characters these birds are. :c) Keep up the good work.

I recently sent this email to Joanna, and I want to post it so that anyone else considering purchasing one of her birds will see the satisfaction she delivers! Her aviary is one of the cleanest, best loved, and VERY well-provided for setups I have ever seen. Do not think twice about buying from Joanne! She was extremely WONDERFUL to deal with. here's my email: I just wanted to let you know that the bird is doing wonderfully. I decided to name her 'Aleda' which is latin for 'small and winged'. She sure is a cuddly little thing!! She has been jumping from me to Saje (my fiance) all evening, she seems to just love it here. She doesn't get along too badly with my 'tiel, they had a 'mexican standoff' when they first met, and there have been a few screech-and-hiss wars over who owns the house, but I think they'll meet eye to eye when the unfamiliarity dies down. They don't fight physically and they seem curious about one another which is all that really matters anyway. I bought Egg Granules this evening, and I thought I should let you know that 'Hagen' and 'Living World' are the same company, they joined forces so to speak. I got a generously sized bag for 10 bucks, so it's very reasonable. I'll give her some mixed veggies with egg granule tomorrow along with some budgie-type seed mix I bought as a temporary until I can find better resources for lovebird food. I also have lots of millet handy. I usually give Kaii a strand once a week, so I'll likely be giving Aleda a strand one every 1.5 weeks, just because she's so much smaller. Well! I'm ranting now. I put her to bed at 8:30, she REALLLLLLLY did NOT want to be removed from me. She latched on to the nose piece of my glasses and whined as I tried to gently coax her grip-lock on them! *laughs* she's such a sweetie. We both love her very, VERY much. She's a very welcome addition to this home. Thank you for parting with her, I know now why you were so sad to see her go. She is an extremely special little creature. I promise you I will love her like a child forever.

What a wonderful website, Jo. Your birds are gorgeous. I can't imagine how you find time to do anything except caring for your flocks. My roommate and I share our home with one lovebird, one cockatiel,a Goffin's Cockatoo and an African Grey. We are excited to have learned that one of Gail Scovil's Eclectus babies will come to live here too. Add to that fish, numerous cats and dogs (we breed Shetland Sheepdogs), three rabbits, a Pygmy goat, and a Welsh pony stallion...Our days are full, even without our full-time jobs away from the house. Now that I have found your site, I shall visit it often. Bonnie

We have 11 cockateils and a pair of masked love birds which we are really enjoying. We had always wanted a pair of lovebirds and finally found a pair that we fell in love with. We make natural pet treats so my birds love it when I use them as guinea pigs for a new recipe. Wish we would have come across your site when my husband was struggling to find a disign to build our teils a cage. He built a beautiful cage now he is building our lovebirds a bigger cage. I find that a couple of love birds are great but not enough they are such fun to watch. Well thanks again Sharon Our website is www.pamperedpettreats.com

Wonderfull. Can you tell me the name of the brand of wire you use, and where you get it? You two are so lucky to share the same interests. I have over 60 cages, all store bought, and a lot of different shapes and sizes. I want to build some flights in what I laughingly call the bird room, which was supposed to be my dining room. I now have cages in almost every room in the house. I no longer have a husband to help ( the one I had wouldnt anyhow ) my 2 sons will help me I think. I want 3 flights about 8 ft deep, 8 ft high and 4 ft wide. I have thought of putting all girls in one, boy's in another etc. Have you tried this ? It will be their resting place of course. Thanks pat

We bought Shrek a few months ago. He is a brilliant green, lineolated parakeet. So cute!! He has real attitude, too and he is so much fun. I never thought I would like a bird, but my husband, Adam and my daughter Lindsay were insistent, so we ended up buying one. He has turned out to be so much fun and such a pleasure to have around. He is very cuddly and very brave around our 2 dogs. He once nipped the end of our mini poodle's nose when she got too close. We are trying to buy a "Donkey" to go with Shrek. We would love to buy a blue linnie ASAP. Adam has been talking to Jo on the phone trying to arrange it. I have been looking at the photos on the website and I really love the dark double factor violet turquoise (cobalt white face) ones. The name is definitely a mouthful, but they are really beautiful. I hope we will get one soon. Thanks for the great pet, Jo. We sure love him. Lisa PS. Happy New Year!

I'm so excited about getting this pair I breed lovebirds as well as many other birds and these are the ones I'm most excited about.

Hi Jo!! It's me!! Sweetie!! Sweetie-Peetie! I am an American Cinnamin and was purchased in Fredericton by Cindy! I am a really good girl who has alot of spunk! I am very very socially content, and confident. I love shredding everything I can! If I don't have something to shred I will shred Cindy's fingers and my buddy Birdie's toes. Cindy has taught me the 'Poopie Trick' in which I poopie when she asks 'Poopie?'. She yells Woohoo! Good Girl! I share two cages and two playstands with Birdie. Lots of birds visit Birdie and I as there are suction cup bird feeders on the windows!! Birdie and I love cartoons and refuse to come out of the cage if were busy watching a really good one! Birdie and I 'Snuggie' on command by diving down Cindy's shirt. Cindy likes to take me outside but is weary because I flew about 25 meters and landed in trees on two separate occassions. On one of those days I had just been clipped that day!! I went back to the vet and there was not much more left to clip! Cindy bought us a feathertether leash and I look like a gymnast in my spandex now when I go outside!! I am a very happy lovebird! Birdie was not very confident until I came along....he was very tame but not properly socialized and was afraid of toys and all new things! His confidence has grown since I came along. I am a little too confident though and will eat anything that passes by my mouth (piglet!). Birdie gets angry at me and nips me when I try eating strange foods that he hasn't tryed first! I usually already have a chunk in my mouth. I even bite mommy when she doesn't share!

Thank you so much for all of the knowledge and information that you so freely share with everyone! Your website is truly wonderful, and I especially love all of the photographs. It can be hard to find information about linnies and your site is great! I wish I lived closer to you so that I could purchase one of your babies - I know they would be so tame and wonderful. Thanks again so very much!

Hi, I recieved a cobalt linnie from Jo this weekend. He flew right across Canada. He arrived in Edmonton in a bit of a snowstorm. He was just fine when he got here. He's settled in just fine. (sitting quietly with me as I type this) Jo was great about answering every question, no matter how trivial it seemed. All of the arrangements went great. Thanks Jo

I received a little blue linnie from Joanne a little over a month ago. He is the sweetest little guy and I love him so much. Joanne was so great in arranging the delivery and answering the many questions I had. My little "Turk" was wonderfully socialized and friendly when I got him and I would recommend Tiny Rascals to anyone. Thanks again Joanne.

Hi Jo. It's us, Willow and Daxter. We're having a great time here in Toronto and really liking our new home. Wanted to let you know that our new owners think we are just the prettiest little birds ever. They keep telling us how wonderful we are, and quite frankly, our heads are starting to swell!! Thanks for raising us so well and sending us to a home where we are loved so much. Bye!!!

Well, Where do I start, I met Jo a long time ago, when she only had a few birds. As I had a lovebird named Suzie that I loved dearly, who passed away, Jo and I became great friends immediatly. So who helps Jo when she is away for a day trip, which, PS she hates to leave... ME. Who clips toe nails, and almost cries along with Jo, when we cut a little tiny bit too far, and need the Quick stop... ME. PS, we have always managed to control any bleeding within seconds, as we take extreme care in this serious needed care, for those lineas that grow nails like crazy and for those that we need sexing done. Who helps clip all the wings of those WONDERFUL baby birds, so that they don't harm themselves as she tames them... ME. SO, yes Jo and Louis are great, I have visited many shops, aviaries, and home locations, where birds are given good care; however, I must say honestly Jo beats them all. Even me... OOPS. My baby's name is Michou, a linea that Jo hadtamed. He is a lovely bird that I have thought not to call me for attention, but to accept attention, when I let him out... However, he will catcall me just to get my attention. Feel free to email me also, if anyone wishes!!!

I am very pleased to have the opportunity to tell others about my experiences with Tiny Rascals. I "found" Joanne one day several months ago while surfing the net doing research on lovebirds, as my husband and I were considering getting one. I finally got up the nerve to call her (as I had never responded to anything on the Internet before)and I was immediately taken with her friendliness. We began sending e-mails back and forth and she provided me with all the information I needed to make a decision on getting a lovebird. When we travelled to Joanne and Louis' home, we were not disappointed. Their Aviary is fabulous, clean and very well kept. The birds are beautiful and healthy and Louis gave us a great lesson on genetics. We went home with a little Seagreen that we named "Baby" and within days fell head over heels for this little bird. Since that time we have returned four more times to Tiny Rascals and selected four more remarkable little birds. Joanne has been a constant support to us as we were complete "newbies" at birdkeeping. I am a big fan of the journal and anxiously await each new entry. In my opinion and in all my research, I believe that this is by far one of the best lovebird sites available and I am truly thankful to Joanne and Louis for educating us all about these fabulous birds and for making them available to us!
